Wishbone – Taking Breaks

Coming out of Los Angeles, California is the three-piece psychedelic indie rock band known as Wishbone. With a unique and interesting sound somewhat reminiscent of classic bands like The Beatles, The Who, and Oasis, these guys have dove into a genre that hasn’t seen the spotlight in quite a few decades. I highly recommend wearing headphones while listening to their songs to fully appreciate the stereo experimentation, psychedelic instrumentation, and subtle sound changes that make up this all-encompassing listening experience. This is the kind of music that brings to mind visions of the sixties; the hippy movement, Woodstock, counterculture, war protesting, peace, flower power, and mind-altering drugs. So, are we seeing psych-rock on a comeback? I can’t say for sure. However if more bands like this are willing to give it their all, and put out music with a modern twist on a nostalgia sound, I can see psych-rock and similar genres picking up in popularity.

Want to check out this EP for yourself? Head on over to their Bandcamp site and pick up the album now, for a ‘name your own price’ cost. This band could also use a bit more attention on their Facebook, so stop by today, hit that Like button, and put a smile on their face.

RapMuhammad – Q+A Session

Browsing some of the recommended artists that were emailed to UnderTheIndustry, I happened to stumble across a 23 year old aspiring rapper from Chicago who called himself RapMuhammad. After listening to a few of his songs on his soundcloud I ended up getting really into his music. Interesting beats that feature hard-slapping bass coupled with light woodwinds and instrumentals, blended seamlessly with lyrics that speak strong and clever. Anyway, I went on to ask him if he wouldn’t mind doing a little interview with us. I gave him some basic questions to get to know more about him and his life, where he got the inspiration for his music, and what the future holds for his career. Check out his responses below!

How about a little backstory? Where are you from, and what made you who you are today?
I was born in San Bernardino, CA and spent my first few years of life on earth there. Soon after, my family moved into my great grandma’s basement on the southside of Chicago when I was around four years old. We stayed there until we could afford to move out to our own place in Matteson, a southern Chicago burb. My Dad’s business was growing almost as fast as our family was with six kids of their own plus three additional foster kids. My parents didn’t want their family to be split apart so they took all three of them in. Eventually we needed more space so when I was around ten or eleven we moved into an even bigger house in a different suburb called Mokena. We lived there until my father passed away in 2005. It was a shit show from there. We moved in the city, out the city, in the city again, out the city again, and so on until I couldn’t remember the name of the streets we were living on anymore. Six times relocating and seven years later, I stay on my mom’s couch in Bradley, IL now. I also lived in West Lafayette, IN while attending Purdue.

Desecravity – Hades

Sometimes a band comes a long and just blows away any expectations you had leaving you speechless. Today, for me, that bands is Japan’s Desecravity. These guys are playing some of the best death metal with a technical edge I have heard in a long while. The music is a hurricane of brutal druming, razor sharp riffing, slick bass, and gutteral vocals that hits all the right points without sounding old, cliche, or forced. It all flows and feels fresh, hitting you hard with brutal passages and memorable hooks. Not to mention the production (Courtasy of Erik Rutan from the legendary Hate Eternal) is top notch, packing a very solid sound with none of that murky or hollow tone that tend to dominate death metal recordings. Honestly if you’re not a fan of this type of music this is probably not going to be the band that converts you, but if you are…turn up the speakers and get ready to piss off your neighbors. You can pick up their fantastic debut album “Implicit Obedience” on Willowtip Records Bandcamp page for $7.99 and follow the band here on their facebook.

El Scar – God’s In His Heaven, All’s Right With The World

I am a huge fan of two things: Messugah and the anime Neon Genesis Evangelion. I have always secretly longed for a way to combine the two that didn’t involve crummy AMV’s made in Windows Movie Maker. Well in steps Brighton’s El Scar, the one man project of Marc Le Cras (See what he did there?), who plays heavy experimental metal inspired by the classic anime. Fans of Messugah and djent* should already know what to expect with the music: Progressive style riffs defined by palm-muted chugging and light ambient passages, bouncing from one to the other and overlapping in odd time signatures. It’s all made with care, talent, and percision. El Scar offers several EP’s and two version of his first album (One with vocals, one without) on his Bandcamp page at a “Name Your Price” option. There is currently new music in the works with an acoustic EP (Being released in a week as of writing) as well as a full length album. Keep tabs on the status of upcoming music on his facebook, and if you excuse me I have a movie to throw on.

*If you have no idea what “Djent” is, no worries! Wikipedia sums it up pretty well.

Adaliah – Hollows

Right out of Bradenton, Florida comes the rising force of Adaliah. This six piece have been building a large and loyal fanbase all over the east cost in a short amount of time and it’s not hard to see why: Impassioned duals vocals providing hardcore yells and screams, pounding drums, loud aggressive guitars, numerous djenty style breakdowns, and to top it off melodic sections sprinkle the songs giving them an almost progressive feel at times. It’s a band that makes you want to get up and in the pit (As evident of this live video), this is a must for fans of Misery Signals or our previous featured band Every Passing Dream. Adaliah is currently working on their new album “Broken Families” with Mediaskare records which will be out sometime soon. If you dig what you hear, like the band on their facebook to keep up with album news and tour dates.
